Latest Updates from Our Project:

One Month In: Art and More
9 months ago – Mon, Apr 22, 2024 at 06:11:26 PM

Hi there dragonriders,

Most of this month has been spent working with artists so I am going to turn things over to Art Director Abbey Kelly

Hello backers! Abbey here. Here is this month from the AD's end:
  • All briefs for dragons have been sent to Toni AKA AnonymousGob and all threat briefs have been sent to Andre Rivera. Progress has been amazing with both of them and they are geniuses! Credit: black and green dragon sketches (Toni) and the moving mountain sketch (Andre)
  • Shan (anonbeadraws) works at an incredible speed and has knocked out yet another 2-page spread and several sketches for the hold amenities, including the stables and steamy baths seen here.
  • Nala J. Wu (naladraws) has sent me sketches for the remaining hold amenities, and the style looks like a dragonrider was doing watercolours of their Warren island!
  • For characters, Kaden Collins is nearly done with the rider archetype "Old-timer" and Monica M. Magaña finished our fresh-face!
  • Dan Walker (Storybake) is set to write a recipe for Warrenguard and once that is made we will commission art for that too.
With the art budget finalized, more art contracts are set to roll out this month. Once the rider stretch goals are finished we will be having Angie Gone working on Sebastian Yue's rider archetype and are in talks with Val Wise (Yazeba's Bed and Breakfast) for Jay Dragon's Rider Archetype. Two more larger art pieces, more dragon art (including baby dragons, a size chart, and an egg), and chapter art are in the pipeline as well.

May will be a busy month as I thumbnail the layout for the entire book - set to go over 125 pages. One thing I'm very excited about is my sketch artists making OC's of who are 'drawing' their sketches. Andre played an outsider in a Warrenguard game (as we like having the writers and artists play the game) and made this gorgeous guy, and that might be the in game canon artist behind the threat sketches! So cool! So, layout wise, this lets me have an inconspicuous way to inform the readers who did what art!

See you next Month!

Thank you for your help shattering our expectations

Thank you Dragonriders,

I am absolutely in awe. When I set the funding goal for $5000 for this campaign, I worried I was being too ambitious, and $10,000 was just blue sky dreaming

Our final total was $21,092

I want to give you a deep thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have seen your excitement, your tweets, you tuning in to actual plays and interviews. Thank you for believing in this project. I cannot wait to get this book into your hands, and thanks to you it is going to be chock full of gorgeous art and bonus content.

From here on out, updates are going to be monthly, unless there is BIG news to share. The next month is going to be taking a well deserved week off for the team, then doing some final budgeting and contract writing for artists and contributors, and preparing the book for copy editing with Karen Twelves.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

FINAL WEEK, Warrenguard at PAX East, and The Outsider
10 months ago – Sun, Mar 17, 2024 at 08:58:05 PM

The time draws near, dragonriders

This is the final week of crowdfunding, if you haven't told your friends you are excited about Warrenguard, now is the time! Every dollar we raise is going towards making this book even better.

Myself and Warrenguard are going to be at PAX East as part of Games on Demand. I and two other GMs will be taking anyone daring enough on a fun demo adventure. If you have never been to Games on Demand at PAX before, we use a live line system, so show up a bit before the scheduled times if you want to play Warrenguard. I'll also be handing out stickers to anyone who shows they are a Warrenguard backer, and showing off prototype dice, including cubic zirconia dice if shipping works out. In addition, I will be participating in the Tabletop System Wars panel at 5PM on Friday in the Bobcat Theater

"Bring your wildest one-shot and campaign ideas, and we’ll tell you which tabletop roleplaying system you should use and why. New rules or old school? Story game or simulation? Crunchy or freeform? Our team of designers, editors, geeks, and grognards will brainstorm and debate until you’ve got the system that fits. You bring the ideas—we’ll bring the nerd rage."

Lastly, I wanted to give you a first look at as sketch of The Outsider dragonrider art by Leon Coelho. The outsider is the misfit of the Warrenguard who doesn't quite belong, be that because they have a dangerous past, or a bit of the oracle's gift. The outsider is bad luck, or at least everyone thinks they are.

See you in the last 48 hours, dragonrider

15k Stretch Goal Reached. Up Next: JAY DRAGON
10 months ago – Sun, Mar 10, 2024 at 01:34:53 PM

What a milestone Dragonriders!

We're 300% funded and only halfway through the campaign! You have paid for a new gorgeous piece of art to be in the book, and as thanks every backer at the Dragonrider tier or higher will be receiving a gorgeous art print post card of "The Hold Below", a new piece of art by Shan Bennion showing a dragon's eye view of the world of Warrenguard.

Now on to our next stretch goal, which to be honest, I cannot believe is a possibility: Jay Dragon will write a new dragon rider archetype.

Jay is the editorial director at Possum Creek Games. Jay is a queer disabled game designer born and raised in the Hudson Valley, who grew up digging for newts in the riverbed, attempting (and mostly failing) to summon ghosts with friends, and taking long rooftop naps. Jay got into role-playing games at the Wayfinder Experience, where Jay would run largescale live-action events for almost one hundred fellow kids.

Jay’s first published game was Sleepaway in 2019, a horror RPG about a group of queer summer camp counselors keeping their kids safe from a strange and uncertain world. In 2020 Jay launched Wanderhome - a pastoral fantasy RPG about traveling animal-folk and the world they encounter. These days, when not writing games or managing Possum Creek, Jay can often be found sitting on a dock by the creek, listening to music and watching the sun set.

Jay's work on Wanderhome was a big inspiration for the design of the rider archetypes in Warrenguard, so I absolutely cannot wait to see what Jay does. But it can only happen with your help. Please spread the word, tell your friends.

Next Update: Warrenguard at PAX East!

See you soon

Announcing our Copy Editor: Karen Twelves! & other Updates
10 months ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2024 at 04:35:28 PM

Hello Dragonrider,

We are SO CLOSE to reaching our 15k stretch goal and unlocking a new piece of art by Shan Bennion who did our key art of the cozy Warren den and including it as a physical postcard! The piece we have talked to them about is tentatively titled "The Hold Below" and offers a dragons eye view of the world of Warrenguard. Knowing Shan's work, it is going to be absolutely stunning.

In other news, I am so excited to announce we are bringing Karen Twelves on to the Warrenguard project as copy editor. Karen has a wealth of experience and honestly I cannot believe we have her on the team.

Karen Twelves (she/her) is an editor and linguist, and has worked on such projects as Blades in the Dark, Fiasco, Dialect, and Thirsty Sword Lesbians. She recently published the second edition of Improv for Gamers, a collection of theater exercises to help strengthen skills for gaming, GMing, and larping. Learn more about her at karentwelves.com and improvforgamers.com.

Also exciting, Toni (aka Anonymous Gob) has continued to work on sketches for dragons and provided this amazing work of the Green Dragon as originally imagined in Shan Bennion's art.

Lastly, a bit of housekeeping. A frustrating quirk fun feature of BackerKit is that it allows digital backers to add physical add-ons to their purchase. I have been assured by BackerKit this will be solved in future updates. In the meantime, this was not intended, and does cause logistical problems in fulfillment. If you are one of the several Hatchling backers who added dice, tokens, or a copy of Sapphic Space Pirates to your purchase. I ask that you please remove the physical add-ons from your pledge, or pledge the extra $15 and upgrade to the Dragonrider tier which comes with a book. If you do not, YOU WILL BE CHARGED SHIPPING WHEN THAT IS COLLECTED

Thanks so much for your time Dragonrider, and I'll see you in the next update when hopefully we will be announcing that we reached the 15k Stretch Goal!

Full of Gratitude,
Natalie Pudim
